THE AUTHOR
Growing up as the ‘city’ kid in northern Illinois with two farms in the family, he spent as much time as possible, with his cousins, playing tag on barn roofs, climbing to the top of silos, building hidden tunnels in the hay mow, camping out, shooting BB guns. Having dangerous fun and then laying on his back staring up at the stars, talking about finding hidden treasure and other adventures.
At home, school was boring, except for art and reading. Not the typical boy hobbies in the 1950’s! In the sixth grade, he almost stopped reading because the teacher insisted on a book report for every book read! Writing was not his thing. His mind went blank, just like when he was called on in class. His cheeks burned, and he knew they were so bright red, everyone could see. Feeling embarrassed, he just wanted to disappear into a book, into an adventure.
This first book is that adventure, hoping to inspire in kids today with the fun of imagination, and start their journey of faith. That’s what got him through.
